Race to Dakar offers hope for the rest of us
Charley Boorman’s attempt at finishing the Paris-Dakar rally last January is chronicled in his new book, Race to Dakar.

We mentioned Charley Boorman’s adventure, The Long Way Round, in last week’s
installment. Now we’re learning that Boorman has a new book out, which
covers his attempt at finishing the grueling Paris-Dakar rally last January.
A few years ago, your faithful motorcycle correspondent took an off-road
motorcycle course with former Cycle World off-road editor Jimmy Lewis, who
rode Dakar twice. The guy’s like a mountain goat on a dirtbike, and even he
commented how gruelling the event was.

Charlie Boorman is a flabby actor, so you can imagine how well he did. But
Boorman’s new book Race to Dakar gives the rest of us flabby editors,
accountants and tax attorneys the hope that maybe we can compete, too.
There’s also an accompanying DVD.
The only problem is, you can’t buy it
here, at least not yet. The U.K. version of Amazon.com is your best bet, but know that the DVD won’t play on your U.S. formatted player.
